Here's my prediction. Steven Jones and co. eventually file some sort of lawsuit against someone, alleging thermite controlled demolition. The complaint only focuses on what Jones considers to be the "strongest" "hard evidence", i.e. his tests on a chunk of previously molten metal. The defense attorney answers the motion questioning the chain of custody for the sample, and Jones' theory in general.
